[Vintage-Audio] REPAIR FOR VINTAGE GEAR IN NYS

I think you are going to have to look farther then NY to find what you want. It is getting more and more difficult to find competent technicians in almost all fields. Most you can understand vacuum tube gear are older, the young techs do not understand circuits. They "repair" by either a computer screen error code they lookup in a book or on a computer database. Then they plug in a new board etc. No diagnostic skills included!    
    
You are also going to have to be willing to pay more then you probably want to in order to get a tube amplifier, FM Tuner, turntable, reel to reel tape deck and so forth repaired. Some parts no longer exist 'new', and your only options are finding somebody who has good used ones or somebody who is clever enough to fix the broken vintage rig by substatuting modern parts!    
    
I would find some 'Stereo Stores", generally a high end store, and ask them where they would suggest you send the item for repair. A few still do their own service work, but most send them out to a facility that just does repair work. Always cheaper if you can cut out that middle buck sucker!    
    
Ask some local Hams. Watch the classified Ads in the local per under "Stereo Equipment" or "Audio Gear" etc.

  I have a few pieces of vintage gear for repair, it's very hard to find a repair shop here in NYC and when you do find one,and ask about repairing vintage gear, the price for the repair work is off the roof. does anyone here on the list has any info on stereo repair shops here in the nyc area that do work for a fair price. thanks in advance.
