[Vintage-Audio] Re Ultra Thin Flex Records

Hi All,

It seems we wandered down this vinyl trail some years ago, but if so, yours
truly failed to cut/paste it into his Audio Tech File.

Now it was when, about 1971, that the vinyl industry made the 33 1/3 record
albums more thin? They had some flex, but nothing what would come!

Then, when, about 1972? The 33 1/3 record albums were quite thin and so
flexible that if you held one parallel with the floor using the thumb and
middle finger to hold it, then gave it a vertical motion, like waving adios
to someone, the album flapped like a bird that ate some super stimulants!

They had some names for these things, Ultra?, or Ultra Thin or ?

Can somebody please give me the whens and the reasons for this, please?
Spare me the cost savings portion, as we all know cost savings almost always
= reduction in quality, reduction in content or both!

Thanks!
