Regarding your post on the Ampex list : I am a collector of antique
phonographic esoterica and a professional audio engineer . In order to answer your
questions about the subject record I need to know more about it .

1) The label name

2) artist name , selection name and record #s

3) physical description : ie: 10" ,12" , other size ? cylinder ?

Basically Thomas A. Edison invented the phonograph in 1877 and
commercial models were marketed from the 1880s onward . In no way
was any design of Marconi's ever incorporated in the Edison reproducer or
phonograph !

The design of Edison's cylinder and disc record reproducers are similar
and although they went through evolution in design during their period of
manufacture , they are all Edison's designs and were covered by his patents .

As Marconi was not directly involved in the record business , and Marconi's
contributions such as radio came later than 1906 this record appears to be an
interesting anomaly . Can you take a digital snapshot of it ?

I'm going to listen to some Edison records now , email me with more info
about this record an I'll try and get some answers for you .

BTW, your email neither accepts html or attachments , so I hope you get
this. It is my third try at communicating with you .
