Tim (and all)

Quoting: Production of these microgroove discs were for the blind, the
illiterate, and those too lazy to read for themselves.

Hardly correct!

The books read by professional readers and recorded at the Louisville,
Kentucky studio of the American Foundation For The Blind Inc. were only
available to those persons certified by a physician as being "blind" -
totally or legally), physically disabled, home bound, senior citizen or
otherwise print handicapped. They were not ever, nor are they today, simply
available to anyone who wants to read a book!

Just because a person is technically illiterate, does not make them some
kind of misfit or social reject. There are many normally sighted people with
a neurological problem that may make reading and/or writing not possible.
Such as those who are paralyzed.

?So let us keep one thing crystal clear, Talking Books are not available for
the "too lazy to read"! It is a fantastic service that provides the access
to knowledge, enjoyment and information to those unable to utilize the
printed word in the normal manner.
