Duane,

there may also be some shelf life limits on Shure stylus units.

The rubber inserts that make up the pivot point for
the stylus assembly in the holder will go bad over time
and cause problems.

I had a Shure V15 Type 3 that failed like that, and they
have (had) some trade-in program for stylus units.
The type 3 is no longer produced either, and they suggested
another unit, which they supplied, at a reasonable cost.
This was about two years ago, and I do not know anything
about the current status with Shure products.
