[Vintage-Audio] Heavy, man!

Some of you guys who know your vintage hi-fi probably won't be surprised by
this, but I sure was.
Picked up a couple of nice-looking speakers at the Princeton IL hamfest from
a guy who noticed my interest and said "I ain't hauling 'em back home!".
After paying the very low asking price I found out why - these suckers were
HEAVY! Looked like an AR-3 clone to me, 12" three-way and I just figured
the cabinet may have been genuine walnut to account for the extra weight.
Now that I've hooked them up (and they do sound very nice) I found the
Wharefedale W60C in an old Allied catalog only to learn about "Wharfedale's
unique sand-filled principle...two layers of wood with a completely inert
filler of dry sand between them for resonance-free reproduction". No
wonder they're heavy!
Based on the '65 Allied book, they were contemporary with the Eico ST-70K
I've got them wired up to so I guess that worked out about right. Any
strong feelings out there about Wharfedale's sand boxes?
