Today I went to see/hear the pair of JVC speakers I heard about in my locality
yesterday. Here is what I found.
They emeasure 42 high, 15 wide and 11 deep. They contain two 12 inch woofers, a
single 5 inch midrange and three tweeters. They are labeled on the back as a
"six way system". Power rateing is 180 watts RMS, 600 watts peak. Two rear
ports. Weight is about 50 lbs. The price on the back is $895. Even says "Made In
The USA", but being as JVC is Japanese, somehow I doubt this.
I failed to memorize the model number, will get it later. I am guessing they are
eighties vintage.
I took along a CD I made up with seven selections intended to demonstrate a
variety of frequency ranges. The speakers performed well below 100 Hz with no
distortion. The highs were crisp and clean. Bass response was snappy, nothing
muddy. Mids were clear and voices were very intelligible. They performed well.
All foam suspension was in excellent condition and the cabinets had only a few
minor skuffmarks on them. The price was right, so home they came.
While my demo CD was playing several wandered up who were interested in buying
the speakers! They hung around in case I did not buy them. Maybe I should have
offered to sell the seller my demo/test CD! Actually the guy that took me to the
place where the speakers were said he really like the CD, so I gave it to him.
He is almost seventy!
These are going to be the mains for the H.H. Scott LK-72b amplifier and I am
going to use the Paradigm Monitor 9s as the center channel speakers with the
LK-48b amplifier. This system should really rock the house, literally!

P.S. If any of you know the model of the JVC speakers described above, please
let me know.
