Fred,

You are correct. I knew that and forgot about it, until a hour ago. Then I
tilted it slightly and it popped right off.

The smaller head on the left, there are two large ones on the right, is divided
by a center strip to create two divisions. If this is the record head, it is
most assuredly two track.

The larger heads on the right show no signs of being divided into four points of
contact. While the division is not as distinct as the smaller head, these also
have two sections.

While I had the head cover off, I cleaned the heads and other associated items
in the tape path. I love the smell of isopropyl alcohol, really clears my sinus
passages out, as well as dissolves any ear wax too. Great stuff!

Duane, I was going to answer this one and the other question but saw
that Roy caught it already. He is quite correct. The "accepted method"
is to add felt washers under the knobs. And also correct in that
hearing one track of four playing backwards is a dead giveaway that it's
a half-track machine.

The only thing to which I didn't see anyone post an answer was about
the head cover. I believe it just snaps off of the idler posts. Pull
straight outward with a slight rocking motion. Because of the forward
position of the electronics deck on the Revox an inspection mirror might
be needed to view the head gaps. Overall though it does seem that you
have a half-track deck. I would say that for your stated needs that's a
good thing.
