Hi All,
Thanks to KO6BB, Phil, I now know how this odd pause control works.
First, it is NOT a pause control! Akai had a device on the left side of the tape
head cover that was used to clean the tape. The 'knob' used to have a felt
covering and a partial metal cover on it, now long departed. It wa spushed
forward to the lock position and left. When you felt the urge to clean the tape,
you depressed the little release button, the felt covered shaft dropped down
against the tape and cleaned it.
This makes sense, as I could not imagine how this odd contraption could possibly
'pause' the tape, but yet that is what it appeared to be intended to do. I
seriously doubt I need the felt on this shaft to clean the tape, so it will be
left as is.
Thanks to all for their suggestions and input. The great thing about these
lists, is that somebody out there has seen it, no matter what it seems to be.
What a tremendous resource for information!
Remember, these lists do not exist cost free, if you can spare a few dollars,
send them to the owner Al Waller, K3TKJ. If it were not for Al, none of
qth.net/qsl.net would exist. This is the man's hobby, by the way.
