Pete,
The VOA studios here in Washington are using Quantegy tape, and
I think the name transition from Ampex to Quantegy must have been
prior to 1997, as, going from memory, I remember the new name on
the "pancake" boxes down at tape storage. I really prized the
14-inch pancake boxes for shipping, excellent boxes, really
strong stuff, and the price was right, if one was willing to carry
it off! VIA must only be buying 10.5 inch pancakes, as that is
the only size box I've seen in a long time.
