zappa felt no compunction about tweaking his own music... the initial CD =
release of "We're only in it for the money" had completely RERECORDED =
bass and drum tracks!! So it's a completely different album. Zappa =
himself may have remixed Ruben and the Jets.

Duane: Has a similar experience with one of my favorites from the same =
era--
Frank Zappa's Ruben and the Jets. Listened to the vinyl many times on
various systems, cassette tapes I recorded and played in the car, etc. =
and
knew the sound. I saw the CD for sale a few years ago, bought it and it
sounded awful. On closer inspection, I found out it was remastered and
REMIXED. I burned a copy of my vinyl to CD -- much better. Sometimes its =
not
just the media--its sound engineers screwing with the sound. --Mike, =

I was listening to the Anita Kerr Singers on a RCA 1968 vinyl recording =
and
then
played one I just purchased that was released in 1992 on CD. Wow! What a
difference! No, not the type of music, the quality of the audio. =09

It is really surprising how good the vinyl still sounds when compared to
many of
the supposedly superior digital media. It is hard to put into words, but =
the
'presence' just is not there. Oh yes, it is clean and quiet, but also =
dead.
Maybe it is time once again to get the wax build up cleaned out of my =
ears.
