The Acoustic Research model AR-4X was a 2-way speaker, using the acoustic
suspension system popular with AR and others. It was a low efficiency
system, which the makers of the amplifiers loved! Others of that sort
included KLH, Dyanaco, Rectilinear, Wharfdale, and others .. as opposed to
Electro Voice, JBL. et al. The AR 4 crossover was 1200 hertz. Impedance
was 8 ohms, more or less. Weighed 23 pounds, and the manufacturer claimed
would work with 15 watts, but in my opinion, that was not genuine. Fifty
watts or better made this inefficient design do what the did best, which is
to sound great! The woofer was eight inches, and used a direct radiator 2
and one half inch tweeter. Hope that helps, Duane! Mark
