Chuck,

Well, there is no calibration tape with this one. Suggestions?

There is a tape/monitor switch on the front panel. Might this permit the normal
monitoring when using tape?

This unit also handles FM multiplex stereo.

It is about 17X12X4 inches.

What is its value Chuck, aprox.?

Thank you.

These were made in the early '70s, before "Dolby on a chip" and are still
somewhat in demand today. They can be used on any "standard" consumer grade
reel to reel deck, or a cassette deck that was made before they began
incorporating Dolby "B" as a standard feature. The AN-180 is a two channel
unit, which, if used alone on a 3 head machine, defeats the "instant
monitoring" feature of the third head ( unless you are recording in mono ).
To overcome this, two units can be used at the same time-- one set up for
record, and the other for playback. I would not consider using a reel to
reel deck without one of these., or something similar. Manuals ( usually
copies ) are sometimes available on e-Bay, as are the AN-180s themselves.
These units require calibration of both record and playback levels on the
deck to match the Dolby units. The AN-180 has a built in tone generator (
front panel push button ) to set up the record levels on the deck. You MUST
use a Dolby calibration tape to set up your playback levels properly. These
were supplied with the unit when new, and are VERY hard to locate, if lost.
