When it comes to stage work, I can say from personal experience, that Bose is
unequalled. What they have done with the 401 and 802 units is astounding.
Professional groups run them, as did I, and the reproduction and dispersion is
incredible. I did an air show using the Bose 401 and a 300 watt mono six channel
amp and never had to go past "4" on said amp. The speakers together weigh in at
35 pounds! Nothing I tried came close to the efficiency Bose had, and I tried a
lot of expensive speaker combinations. 	

I can not speak to the Bose home equipment, but the professional/commercial is
absolutely wonderful.

The center channel handles ALL the mono information in
the movie soundtrack, not just the voice! I was under
the same misconception that a small CC speaker would
do the job until recently I upgraded to a larger model.
The difference was amazing! I would consider the
minimum to be 2-6 1/2" drivers and a tweeter. Of course
it also helps to send the truly low frequencies to a
sub to remove the CC burden.

The other important issue is that the CC speaker needs
to be similar in response to the left and right front
speakers to make is seamless. Before I was using totally
mismatched speakers and it became apparent when I switched
to the new speaker.

I'll leave the use of 4" drivers to Bose who for some
reason still believes they have the better mousetrap ;)
