Hydro One is planning a six-hour outage from 11 p.m. on Monday, June 3 until 5 a.m. on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, to facilitate the replacement of critical equipment and ensure the reliability of the station and power to the surrounding area. The outage will impact 6433 customers in the City and County of Peterborough, as identified in the Hydro One Outage Map

To reduce service disruptions and the need for future outages, Hydro One is bundling their work as much as possible to enhance power reliability and replace aging infrastructure.

Safety reminders from Hydro One:

  • Treat intersections with traffic lights out as a four-way stop; approach the intersection slowly, come to a complete stop, and yield the right-of-way to vehicles already stopped at the intersection. Use turn signals and hand gestures to communicate your intentions with other drivers, especially if there is uncertainty about who should proceed next. Yield to pedestrians crossing an intersection.
  • Use a flashlight for emergency power; candles pose the risk of fire.
  • Make sure appliances, such as stove, are in the off position.
  • Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible to maintain the cold temperatures and preserve food.
  • If using a generator, place it outdoors in a well-ventilated area to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. Never operate a generator indoors or in a garage.
  • Check on neighbours; especially elderly or vulnerable people who may need assistance during a power outage.
  • Persons with medical conditions who use power dependent equipment are encouraged to secure an uninterrupted power supply (UPS), generator, or move to an area with power during the planned outage.
  • Have emergency supplies like water, non-perishable food, medications, first aid supplies, etc., on hand.
  • Make sure cell phones and devices are fully charged; have fully charged battery backups, where necessary.

Hydro One customers in the impacted area received notification of the outage through an automated phone call on May 6.

Customers are advised to visit the Hydro One Outage Map or call 1-888-664-9376 for more information.
