Sorry Bob mess up on the posting.
I just copied you response over.

I have several 2m C4FM devices. I believe you are confusing C4FM digital connectivity, radio to radio,
with WIRES-X, allowing global connectivity to other internet-connected
repeater/servers which was prototyped using the VE3BUY repeater
some 3 or 4 years ago.
I was unaware at that time of the available WIRES-X functionality
and so did not experiment with it when it was installed at VE3BUY.
Its high bandwidth made it unsuitable for a rural wifi-based internet
connection, and repeatedly resulted in bandwidth overages at considerable
additional cost before it was decommissioned, apparently for just that reason. You are also, or should be, aware that we have a 70cm repeater/server currently supporting both C4FM and WIRES-X - VA3PBO. I was the club member called upon to migrate the hardware complement from the VE3BUY repeater site to the 70cm VA3PBO repeater site, where it currently resides, performing normally. We also have at least one other; VE3TJR is also a C4FM-capable repeater, although those capabilities have been switched off. Jerry VA3CN can be consulted as to the reasons why he believes analog and C4FM cannot co-exist with respect to the VE3TJR repeater. If an internet connection could be provided to it, it could also support WIRES-X, though my understanding is that there is no provision for any connectivity at that location other than power and RF transception. And so, in short, C4FM is the digital counterpart to analog RF connectivity,
and requires no internet connectivity. WIRES-X is a global network of
digitally-connected Yaesu repeater/servers which allow any WIRES-X-capable
radio of being a node on that system and making contact world-wide with
other Yaesu WIRES-X-capable radio owners, in a large network of chat
room-type clusters based on subject, group...
Whatever the reason a user creates a room. Finally, and only with respect to WIRES-X connectivity specifically,
our internet connection at VE/VA3PBO is unlimited,
to the best of my knowledge and belief;
no additional fees would be incurred regardless of the traffic involved.
