Digital modes in the amateur radio hobby world have been around for a long time but there is a growing expectation that ARES groups implement them for emergency communications… especially WINLINK, Some Peterborough ARES members have experimented with digital modes including Winlink but as a group, we have not gone too far.  We have an opportunity to change that.

On our October 5th after our formal monthly ZOOM meeting at 7:30pm,  Simcoe County ham Ian Snow (VA3QT) who coordinates RAC’s Canadian Winlink development group  will give an introductory talk on WINLINK to our club.

This informational talk will be an introduction to the:

system.  Winlink is the modern day successor to our packet radio networks of two decades ago and is used internationally in all aspects of international Disaster Response communications.  The client application, Winlink Express, uses traditional Packet and Pactor modes but today is also capable of functioning with the new VARA HF and VARA FM digital modes and options such as TELNET through satellites.

There will be a Q & A after the talk.
