We acquired some very good Cisco Voice over IP (VoIP) business telephones
via a Government Auction Sale.

To encourage PARC hams to experiment, we are offering PARC members a free
IP Phone.
You'll need to buy a wall-wart to power it. The phone uses an Ethernet
(wired) Internet connection to your home Internet.

*These can be used in 3 ways:*

*Hamshack Hotline:* https://hamshackhotline.com/
Hamshack Hotline (HH) is a FREE dedicated voip telecom service for the Ham
Radio community. Typically, phones are established in hamshacks, EOCs,
Clubs & club members, ARES, and other Ham related areas and functions. It
is not the intention of HH to replace traffic carried over radio in an
emergency or other tactical operation, but rather to augment it, by
offloading managerial tactical operations and providing a full duplex path
for such communications when spectrum is occupied, conditions diminished,
or otherwise unavailable.

*MeshPhone on AREDN:*
If you're one of the hams that might get involved in the Peterborough
HamWAN/Mesh Network on 5.9 GHz, your IP Phone will work over that ham data
network on the MeshPhone system

*On a Commercial Voice over IP phone system*
The Cisco VoIP phone work very well on VoIP providers such as voip.ms
This is a fully functional telephone network/system with global calling and
long distance at good rates.

With everyone in our household having a cell phone, we ditched the regular
Bell wired phone several years ago, and moved the house number to VoIP.ms
which is between $3 and $7 a month.

*How do I get a Cisco VoIP Phone?*
Harmen, Clay and I have some. Contact whomever you're closest to.
1 each to PARC members free - Non-PARC members, $15.

*How do I make it work?*
Probably reading the Hamshack Hotline Wiki is a good place to start
