[v7arcssbnet] V7ARC meeting January 2022 - I need to miss this one

Dear Friends,

I will not be able to attend this month's meeting as my family is preparing
a funeral.
My "Dear Ol' Dad" Don, WØOTZ passed away peacefully two days ago.
A very small fraction of our club might remember him from PPRAA around 1977.

Dad passed his Novice exams in 1953 and soon earned his General as W8LMY;
his brother Al is still licensed as W8LMX.
Dad started me in ham radio in the 1970s by teaching me enough to earn
WNØQPQ.
We had a CW-only station at home that favored 40-meter coverage to
California!

It's been decades since Dad operated, though he has kept his license up.
When I offered to get him on the air a few years ago, he told me that he
wasn't interested.
"I got you started," he said, "and that's good enough for me."

A notice of Don Schaarschmidt's passing and service will appear in Sunday's
Gazette.
