Thanks, Art!
(Paul W0RW also sent this announcement via the PPRAA reflector.)

I'm gonna hafta try it! (I know a few of those hams, including some SKs.)
My TS-700A (from the estate of Les Borst, KC0NC) includes AM, so let's see
if that mode works.
I don't have my DC cord for that rig right now, so I'll raise an antenna at
home.

How I met Doc Cornell, W0MCT:
He ran an AM net on 145.350 MHz in the late '70s, and I used to check in
with an HW-30 ("Twoer").
I was in high school; I bought that "Benton Harbor Lunchbox" from Art Mayer
(sp?) WA0AEH,
who had modified it with a relay for Push-To-Talk and added a meter and
other stuff.
I further fabricobbled a little interface box that let me use a dynamic
cassette recorder microphone
(with its ON-OFF switch as a PTT) in place of the stock crystal or ceramic
mic that was rather tinny.
Doc commented at least once on the "big audio signal" that came out of that
rig as customized.

Eventually I got a vibrator power supply that ran on 12 V DC and I took
that rig on a camping trip!

The Twoer's receiver covered the entire 2-meter band in about 180 degrees'
twist of a knob.
I learned about AM "slope detection" that allows pretty good audio from an
FM signal!
That was my first way to listen to repeaters, before I bought a Wilson HT
in about 1979.

Years later, I met Scott Cornell (slightly younger than I) at work and
learned that he is Doc's son!
He sold me Doc's TR-9130 a couple of years ago, along with a TR-9500 that I
still haven't tested.

Seeyouse on SSB on Saturday evening and then hopefully again on AM on
Sunday evening...
73,
 = Steve K0CI
