---The West Gulf Director,  Dr. David Woolweaver, K5RAV, has called for
a meeting of Texas SM's and SEC's at Summerfest on August 8, 2009 to
discuss harmonizing ARRL Section ARES plans with the new Governor's
Division of Emergency Management's state wide response plan.  Lee

---Dyer's Leadership to Continue
John Dyer, AE5B, will continue as WTX Section Manager.  He started his
new term of office on July 1, 2009. Congratulations to John and Carla,
K5RLA.  Kudos to Nancy Alkire, K5NAA, WTX Public Information
Coordinator, for her continued strong and capable support of League
activities including the well attended Panhandle Amateur Radio Club
Picnic /Swapnet.  Also, congratulations to Bob Ward, WA5ROE, for being
named the Janette Bowers Volunteer of the Year by the city of Alpine,
TX.  Bob has a long history of service to both his community and to
amateur radio.

---Gadus Receives PIO Honor
Public Information Officer STX, Joe Gadus, KD5KTX, of Porter, Texas,
has been recognized by ARRL Public Relations Committee with the PIO
Excellence Award. Gadus was commended for his leadership by the media
in the Houston area during Hurricane Ike.  Joe and his crew have done
quite a lot of resource outreach and exhibit kit development to ensure
a positive League image.  Gadus tells us that the most important part
of any encounter is the first impression.  He further adds, "If your
display looks professional and you dress as a professional,  people
will have confidence in the information you are providing or the
program you are promoting."  Way to go, Joe!
