Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help out with our test.
Here's the list of folks that have indicated an interest in trying our
NVIS testing tomorrow:
Shawn Bates, K5NWZ, Pearland area
Garland Sparks, K5AVL, Clute (bike ride net control location)
Joe Dorn, W5VEX, Belton
Rick Broussard, N5KJN, Liverpool (bike ride rest stop 4)
Steve Clark, WE5K, West Columbia (bike ride rest stop 2)
Sarge Bowersmith, W5SRG, Angleton/Clute (bike ride mobile unit)
Ron Parker, KE5RON, Angleton (bike ride rest stop 5)
Bob Hejl, W2IK using KE5PKV callsign, north of San Antonio
If I've missed anyone, or you want to be involved, please let me know.
The bike ride being referred to is the Century Buzz which is part of the
Clute Mosquito Festival. The forecast is for rain tomorrow but the bike
ride will go on rain or shine. Obviously each operator needs to assess
their personal safety in terms of doing HF work if the weather is bad. I
note that San Antonio and Belton also have 50%+ chances of rain
Saturday. Ours is 70% in the Clute/Lake Jackson/Angleton area for
tomorrow.
Also, obviously our primary assignments tomorrow are to assist the bike
ride. However, I think this is probably a good training opportunity
since it will somewhat simulate what we might be trying to do in an
actual emergency. Note that in a real event like a hurricane evacuation
Joe Dorn in Belton is our contact for coordinating with the shelter in
that area where many Brazoria County folks will be heading. I guess
we'll award bonus points for anyone who can make a contact with him!
I consider Bob to be "net control" for this effort. Bob's plan is as
follows:
"Starting at about 10 AM local and try to communicate with each other on
7295 Khz, then 7265 Khz and finally on 3865 Khz. (all +/- 3 khz)
Attempts will start at 10 AM and if the first frequency/attempt is not
made after 20 minutes, I'll move to the next frequency, etc. "
Please e-mail a summary of your results afterwards either to the list or
directly to me. It would be helpful if you included information about
your equipment, particularly your antenna, power level and location. Any
signal reports or other information from anyone else is greatly
appreciated, even if you aren't directly participating. However, if you
hear us, please try to make contact.
