There are new developments on BPL in North Texas. I
am
offering updated information on the following web
pages. This includes
the recent BPL demonstration for the FCC Commissioners
in the City of
Dallas, the FCC meeting in
Tarrant County, and coverage by the FCC's official
photographer:

    http://www.n5gar.info

Also - an archive of experiences with the Governor and
Texas
Legislature:

    http://www.n5gar.info/Law.htm

There is additional news today about a BPL initiative
in the City of
Weatherford. We are following this with great
interest.

-

We have a new 27 page North Texas ARES Emergency
Management
Plan. It is available here

.pdf file: http://www.n5gar.info/NTXEMP11.pdf
.doc file: http://www.n5gar.info/NTXEMP11.doc

Speakers Bureau: To better serve clubs, hamfests and
conventions, we are taking steps to establish a new
Speakers Bureau in
the North Texas Section. Those interested in
volunteering to be
available to make
presentations on amateur radio topics should contact
me, at the address
below. Please provide information on topic(s) and
availability.
Assistant Section Manager Bill Byrom, N5BB, has agreed
to work with us to
head up this effort.

-

Some ARRL Sections have established a position of
Assistant
Section Manager for Youth Activities. This recent
article describes
the opportunity (see the middle of the page):

Those who are interested in pursuing this should
contact me
at the address below. The successful ASM for Youth
Activities will
provide advice on delivery of League services to young
people. It will
require the active interest and support of parent(s)
or guardian(s). As
shown in the article, there are special opportunities
for the right
person to participate on behalf of the League in this
position.

In memory of N1KB: John Hennessee, N1KB, was Editor
of the
ARRL Rule Book. I had business with him over a period
of eight or nine
years. He was present at the Hamcom conventions in
North Texas on
several occasions over the
years, as well as the Green Country Hamfest in Tulsa,
Oklahoma. Here
is a picture I took at a recent meeting of Section
Managers:
http://n5gar.info/n1kb-1.jpg and a link to the recent
article:
http://www.arrl.org/news/stories/2006/03/07/3/?nc=1
John wrote timely
articles that were published in QST. He leaves behind
a body of work,
with the ARRL Rule Book, that continues to serve our
members every day.
He offered a lot of enthusiasm for his work and for
amateur radio. His
knowledge and expertise will be difficult to replace.

- - - From the Hamcom Board:

The Ham-Com, Inc. Board of Directors would like to
extend a special
invitation to all members of amateur radio clubs to
attend Ham-Com 2006.
This event will be held at new facility in Plano with
easy access, free
parking, and moderately priced hotels nearby.
Admission will be only
$7 this year with advance purchase.

We would also like to extend an invitation to all area

clubs to display information about their organizations
at the event.
The ideal presentation format would be a three-section
foam core (the
science fair project type--available at most office
supply or art stores;
$5.00 or less) with graphics and photos plus a handout
of some sort.
The handout could be a business card or a printed page
with contact
information for the club. You might also choose
to print extra copies of one of your club newsletters
so that
prospective members can read about recent activities.
If you have members who like to scrapbook, then this
is
their opportunity to shine. However, no special skills
other than
cutting and pasting are actually required!

While Ham-Com 2006 will be in a new venue, there are
fewer flea market
tables available for sale this year. Therefore, we
are offering this
alternative to clubs and
organizations at NO COST. An additional advantage of
using
this venue to promote your organization is there will
be no need for someone to "man the booth".
Everyone will be
free to attend the seminars, visit the flea market,
and
browse through the commercial exhibits.

Our goal is to get as many new licensees to Ham-Com
2006 as
possible and then get them involved with area clubs.
Ham-
Com, Inc. believes that this is one way that we can
help area clubs
attract new members. We all know that new blood in a
club or organization
sparks new activity and
excitement.

Again, there is no cost to clubs for the display
space. We
will place tables in the registration area of the
Plano Centre so that
everyone who enters the facility to purchase or pick
up their tickets
will see the displays.

Please contact Ham-Com via office at hamcom.org to
reserve space or if you
have any questions regarding this project. We need to
hear from you by
April 30, 2006 if your club wants to participate so
that we can
allocate appropriate space.

This notice is also the official "call for
speakers" for
Ham-Com presentations. If there are members in your
club or organization
that are interested in making a presentation or
teaching a class or
leading a discussion group, please have them submit
their subject and
contact
information on the Ham-Com website at www.hamcom.org.

We look forward to seeing all of you at Ham-Com
2006.Let's make this
first year in our new facility a banner year!

        Sincerely,

        Lisa McClellan, K5LRM, Co-Chairman
        Barry A. Goldblatt, WA5KXX, Co-Chairman
