*ANNOUNCING THE 2008 TWIAR FALL TALENT SEARCH*
*OPEN AUDITION CALL*
It's time for our TWIAR Talent Search! Twice each year, in the early
fall, and again in the spring, we hold our open audition calls. It's
time to set that "frustrated broadcaster" in you free! If this sounds
like you, or if folks on the air say you have a "broadcast voice" This
Week in Amateur Radio is looking for you. This Week in Amateur Radio has
staff openings for persons interested in becoming volunteer news
anchors/readers, and special segment producers, for the This Week in
Amateur Radio family of programs. You need not hold an amateur radio
license to apply. Previous broadcast experience is helpful.
*NEWS ANCHOR POSITION*: If you have always wanted to be a radio
newscaster, why not come on board with This Week in Amateur Radio? New
Anchors are the backbone of all of our programs. Anchors read the
assigned news stories from supplied scripts, generate WAV files, and FTP
them to our news gathering server. All you need is the ability to read
news copy and follow given direction. The position holds a commitment to
a once every two or three week rotation schedule. Anchors need to have
late Friday night/Saturday morning availability. You must have a PC or
MAC, equipment with a decent in-board sound card (or external USB audio
preferred), and a good quality microphone. No headset mics. You need to
be proficient in the use of audio editing software of your choice.(ie
Adobe Audition, Sony Soundforge, WaveLab, Pro Tools, or the open source
editor Audacity) You must also have FTP (file transfer protocol) client
software, and know how to use it. A high speed internet connection is
extremely helpful.
*SPECIAL SEGMENT PRODUCERS*: Segment Producers produce weekly,
bi-weekly, or monthly special segments on an amateur radio or technology
related topic of their choice. All of the technical specifications for
the news anchor positions also apply here. Each special segment must be
self-contained, and run to a maximum time of about 9 minutes 30 seconds
(+/-). Special Segment Producers are a rare breed. Current special
segments on our air include The Random Access Thought, The Ancient
Amateur Archives, The Propagation Report, among others. If you think you
have what it takes to be a segment producer, by all means please contact us.
*CONTACT INFORMATION*: TWIAR can supply you with software if needed. (PC
Only). So, if you always wanted to be "on the air", you can do it with
This Week in Amateur Radio! We're heard via satellite, amateur
repeaters, WBCQ Shortwave, and podcast world-wide. So why not send your
voice around the planet? Send an e-mail of interest to our
Producer/Technical Director, George Bowen, W2XBS today. E-mail:
w2xbs(at)twiar.org. Please include your name (call sign if any)
location, and most important, a good daytime/evening telephone number so
we can contact you directly with further details. Also, tell us a little
about yourself, and if you really want to get on board fast, you can
attach an audition MP3 to your e-mail. Please get in touch soon! Now
even! I look forward to having you join the the staff at North Americas
premier amateur radio and technology news magazine of the air, This Week
in Amateur Radio - W2XBS
*THIS WEEK IN AMATEUR RADIO SUPPORT FUND LOW*
Once again it looks like I need to appeal to all of our friends and
listeners to help support This Week in Amateur Radio, and This Week in
Amateur Radio International. We need financial support to help off-set
our on-going expenses in keeping our news services on the air and on the
internet. Here's what we're looking at.
Currently we have under $90 in our bank account. We have on-going
expenses which include our internet costs, and expenses related to
equipment up keep, and consumable supplies each month. I have been
paying out of pocket for over the last year. Our service has not
received any significant support over the last 360 days. Unfortunately,
this is a situation that cannot continue. All of us involved with This
Week in Amateur Radio do this as a way to give back to the amateur radio
hobby we all love, by keeping the ham radio community informed. But,
with rising expenses, I can't do it alone anymore. Most of our equipment
here is aging, and donations of audio equipment and computers are far
and few between. So if you can, if you appreciate our efforts, please
help to support This Week in Amateur Radio. As always, your donation is
tax deductible. The address for our support fund is:
