KRBC TV Channel 9 is back on the air and on Dish Network after the
station broadcast transmission tower fell during the ice storm Sunday
night, January 14th, 2007.
KTAB TV Chief Engineer Glen McCandless says the 500 foot tower and its
guy wires were caked with several inches of ice that possibly led to the
collapse at 7:43 p.m.
The tower narrowly missed hitting the transmitter building, according to
McCandless.
KRBC is currently operating on an auxiliary antenna on full power.
KRBC was available on Suddenlink cable systems during the broadcast outage.
Dish Network receives its local feed from the KRBC off air signal so
KRBC was not available on the satellite service during the outage.
The following are photos taken by reporter Rob Mooring at the tower site
south of Abilene on Monday morning.
