Up Coming Changes To TWIAR Format.
Hello everyone..
I have been considering making a few changes to the format
of This Week in Amateur Radios, ham bulletin service for the
past few weeks, and I thought I would write to all of you about
the changes. I am trying to pull the full version of the programs
running time back to around 70 to 80 minutes. The one hour version
will have some changes as well.
First, one of our segments is being dropped, mainly due to
time constraints, and the fact that it is carried by many
other programs on W0KIE Satellite Network, and that is The
Space Report. Chris (KG0BP) produces a great segment, but I
feel it is duplicating other programs on the network, and it
is available as a podcast if needed.
Next, the edited version of the program that usually runs about
an hour, will become strictly "all news". It may occasionally run
for under an hour, depending how much is happening in a given week,
and will make a better fit in our Saturday satellite window which is
58 minutes.
This will make our weekly special features, Leo Laportes Technology
News, and The Random Access File, as well as our rotating monthly
features, W2XOY's Ancient Amateur Archives, G0KYA's Propagation Forecast,
KA4KOE's Dead Electrical Dudes, and W4WLR's "More Musings" available
only in the full length version.
These changes will begin with our next edition. I feel these changes
are necessary to get TWIAR back to our roots as a full news service.
Offering two diverse weekly programs to the amateur community will
help in this regard.
The 60 minutes edited version will be re-branded under an "all news"
moniker (name to be determined) and the "Technology News Magazine of
the Air" full length version. Both version will be available as a
podcast as well.
TWIAR International (shortwave broadcast program) will continue unchanged
in its current format.
I will be asking Greg, our web master, to make a few changes to our
download area on the page to make the magazine full length version, and new
60 minute "all news" version easier to identify in the download area of our web
page. If you subscribe to the RSS feed (podcast) the change will be
transparent.
If you have any comments or questions, please let me know.
Thanks. George - W2XBS
