Well, after a very busy and frustrating weekend, I thought I would drop
a line to all of our affiliates on the mailing list for This Week in
Amateur Radio, as to what happened over the last few days.

First off, this week proved to be one of the busiest news weeks I can
remember during the past year. There is a lot happening right now in the
amateur service.

John, W9JFL did a steller job in recording over 14 individual stories for
this weeks edition, and Bill Baran, N2FNH, put together a fantastic edition
of the Random Access file. We transmitted our copy, and received the
files from John with no problem. The program went together with little
difficulty, and then we were ready to transmit the finished 542 edition.

Then the *$#! hit the fan.

The trouble started with my local ISP (remember dial-up here in the broadband
void) when their switch kept going down from other people logging in and
re-infecting it with one of the latest virus their machines contracted.

I finally found a work around for this problem by coming into my ISP through
another city. Long distance of course. This problem continued through
Saturday night, and I finally got a reliable connection around 3pm Sunday.
Upload to our Albany FTP was successful.

However, while all this was going on, our web host in California got hacked.
It brought down our server along with a host of others.

OCH brought all the servers back on line a while later via tape back-up.
This back-up was from July. Greg Williams (our web guru) did a fantastic
job getting the web site up date, at least enough to get the latest
edition out to the world.

I would personally like to thank all involved. John, W9JFL, our anchor this
week, Dale, our audio file guy, who stayed with me via cell phone throughout
the weekend to insure edition 542 got out anyway possible, and Greg who
re-assembled the web site.

I hope all this is behind us now. Again guys, thanks! And to all our
affiliates, thank you for putting up with this. All of it was out of our
control. Isn't technolgy wonderful?

Thanks for staying with This Week in Amateur Radio. I am looking forward to
bringing you next weeks edition, number 543, complete with a special replay
of W2XOY's segment on 9-11. See you then.

Best 73
