Well gang, I am in the process of changing the hosting company for
TWIAR.org.
It was a good run for this long without having to pay (since I was a former
employee getting by with free hosting under gentlemans agreement), but as
they say, all good things...
The advantage of the new site will be that I can set up mailboxes and email
forwards. I can even set up mailing lists if I wanted, but QTH is doing
fine for us for now. I can also fiddle with a counter setup and web stats
to see how our site is doing. I lost those capabilities with the old host
and couldnt call it in because, well...theyd have found out we werent
paying! :-)
The disadvantage, of course, is that it will cost some MONEY to provide. Im
getting a good discount (since I used to work for them) and am also getting
a couple of extra perks, but money will still be the big issue. Anyone
wishing to "donate to the cause" can send it in to George and specify "web
hosting" and George will see that it gets sent out properly.
The setup will take about 72 hours, so the web site will not start
reflecting new changes until then. Depending on the speed that your ISP
starts showing the new DNS servers, and the speed with which I can upload to
the new server, you may see some funky things happen for a few hours. This
will be normal. We will experience some pains in the move I am sure, but
hopefully they will be hammered out by next saturday.
Too bad it happened during the HAMvention weekend. I know that is usually
one of our bigger airings.
