President Bush said he intends to nominate Jonathan S. Adelstein, an aide
to Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-S.D.), to the Federal
Communications Commission.

Adelstein's nomination requires Senate confirmation.

Bush nominated Adelstein for a term that expires on June 30, 2003,
according to a press release posted on the White House's Internet site.

If confirmed, Adelstein would join Michael Copps in the FCC's Democratic
minority. The FCC's majority consists of three Republicans, all appointed
by Bush: chairman Michael Powell and commissioners Kathleen Abernathy and
Kevin Martin.

Before joining Daschle's staff, Adelstein was a legislative aide to Sen.
David Pryor (D-Ark.). He also worked as an aide to Sen. Donald Riegle
(D-Mich.)

Adelstein has undergraduate and graduate degrees from Stanford University.
