[TVI-RFI-EMI] [RFI] CFLs and LEDs

What?

The only reason we are going CFLs is to lower the watts used. Of course we
expect less energy usage. Yes, we could just go lower wattage in
incandescents and save energy, but then we can't see much. We were already
using the minimum sizes needed for the task and turning off unneeded lights.
My electric bill is $50-60 normally and can get around $100 when heavy A/C
usage during hot summer months now and was probably 10% lower back when I
started changing bulbs. That $5/mo savings is 5-10% and pays for the bulbs
many times over even if they last only 1 year. We could go to bed at 7PM
and read by candlelight and get up at 5AM and save a ton of energy too but
my candle bill would go up. Well maybe not. I would be able to get cheap
candles and not have to use as many of the expensive ones my wife likes to
run each evening that are lit even with the electric lights on.

I am just lost on what you were trying to convey?

I had the opposite. Started about 8 years ago and replaced mostly the whole

house with CFLs. Only had 3-4 that are not still running (including lights

in all ceiling fans) and average electric bill dropped about $5/mo that

first year when I checked. Did not replace outdoor nor 3-way lamps. Dan

There-in lies the problem:
It's the choice of wattage you chose for the room.
Living in Maine, our monthly electric bill was usually over 120 dollars a
month.
I removed all 100 watt lamps and replaced them with 40. A month later our
bill dropped to 89 dollars.
I did this to prove myself a point. Try it! (It also helps to TURN OFF the
lamps when not in use)

Oh, someone also wrote questioning the exposure to dust , moisture, etc.
I bought CFL at economy (cheap) prices. And it lasted less than 1 year in
bathroom. I bought quality (not cheap) CFL's and they are still working
after 2 years.
