Yes, they transmit very well for several thousand feet...  I discovered this
in the mid-80's when my buddies and I kept driving around looking for waht
was ruining our CB reception...    We found it when Walter said "I hear it
for a couple of blocks and it's loudest right here" when we were talking
through open cab windows.  I have switches to turn off each LED in my truck
while I operate mobile HF.  Computer/ECU/fan/fule injector noise is nothing
compared to the pulsing swishing noise from just the "alarm" LED alone, not
an alarm circuit, just one little flashing LED that comes on when the key is
out.
