CFL QRP Outing Saturday August 23, 2025

By cflqrp on August 14, 2025

Let's try a new park location this month! We will meet at Big Tree Park in Seminole County starting at 0800 EDT. Ths park is located in the Longwood area at 761 General Hutchison Parkway, Longwood, FL. Click here for directions via Google Maps.

The OARC and LMARS portable group outing attendees thought this was a good park for a recent event. Looks like the size and facilities are good for our group to explore too!

Keep an eye on the weather as Erin looks like it might cause some rain and lightning. We've dodged a lot of bad weather over the years, but we don't need to be out with wire in the air. Bring plenty of water or soft drinks to keep hydrated and snacks and lunch in a cooler is a great idea. If the band conditions are good it might be a long day!

Sunday August 17 is the annual NJ QRP Club Skeeter Hunt! So far over 200 have signed up as Skeeters and if it is anything like past years, or like the recent Flight of the Bumble Bees QRP contest, it will be a great time to give points to one another. I'm signed up to be Skeeter #19 and this is one of my favorite times to get out and play. I'm a contest point-giver and enjoy reconnecting with others that do QRP for fun!

We start as the park opens at 0800 (bring coffee!) So arrive as early as you are able and pick a spot. The trees and spots look great for antennas and we have room to roam if we get a large turnout.

As a group, we have no membership, dues, officers, or rules and do it for fun with like-minded ops! Over the years, a few best practices have been followed:

  • Bring your sandwich and snacks if you’d like
  • Bring along some water, coffee or cold drinks
  • Normally we operate until noon, but feel free to stay longer if you’re having fun!
  • QRP or max 15 watts requested to avoid rig damage due to proximity to other stations
  • Please check which bands others are using to avoid conflicts!
  • All modes are welcome
  • Come learn from one another and enjoy the outdoors
  • Bring your license and rig, but we’ll share if you don’t have portable gear handy!

Hope we see ya in the park or at least on the air!

72, Kelly K4UPG for the CFL QRP Group
