In the movie "Independence Day", The massive alien ships shut down the world.  Once we figured out how to attack them, the order went out to notify the rest of the world how to do it.  The communication method? CW!!  The aliens were able to shut down all satellites but they could not shut down the ionosphere.

Makes sense to me - I know the Navy only teaches CW as a back up - perhaps they should reinstate basic CW training.
If not, I suppose they could start conscripting some of us old cw ops.

If WWIII becomes a reality, the thinking is that communications satellites and cell systems will be attacked and crippled first tossing all combatants back to the use of Morse Code on HF, or maybe back further yet to Sam's telegraph, or even the Pony Express might need to be recalled.
