Subject: Fox Hunt, Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024, Bushnell FL

George,  Could you please put this out on the Reflector if you think TVARC members would be interested.  Thank you.

Sumter County ARES, in partnership with the Red Oaks Amateur Radio Group, will be conducting a “Fox Hunt” on Tuesday, April 2nd, 2024, at the Red Oaks RV Park located at 5551 SW 18th Terrace, Bushnell, FL 33513.  We will begin by meeting in the Small Hall in the Red Oaks RV Park at 10:00 A.M. where we will receive instruction and training.  Following the training we will go out into the Park with our equipment, either individually or in groups, and locate the hidden transmitter.  This is a useful skill for any amateur radio operator to understand how to best locate rogue transmitters or someone who is in distress using a radio transmitter to signal help.  At a minimum you will need a VHF Handi-Talkie (HT).  Although it is not necessary, a hand-held directional VHF antenna (Yagi) will help you greatly.

For more information, contact the Sumter County ARES Planning Section Chief Gene King, KI4LEH or Technology Specialist Earl Hassemer, W9EJH. You do NOT have to be a member of any organization to participate in this event.
