We tried using a balloon to hoist a 160M vertical a number of years ago when a team of ops went to Fernando de Noronha off the coast of Brazil for the CQWWDX contest.  Prevailing, high winds put the kibosh on this idea for us.

J,

We've tried it, sounds good in theory but the

slightest breeze will bring the balloon horizontal

and if the balloon breaks, deflates or bursts, you

can have a wire going over a power line, across

someone's path or in a place where you don't

expect or want to see a surprise wire.

Only do it in an open field where you have a good

chance of retrieving the wire and where there is

no chance of it getting tangled in electrical power

lines.

Hi Rich,
I have a ham friend in Ohio who works kite portable quite often using helium balloons; normally from parks and home. Usually on 40m. Great 💡 idea!
