Just a thought Rick-
Hook up any kind of 12v battery to your receiver and kill the main breaker for your house. That will, at least, tell you if it’s in you place or a neighbor- (Christmas lights?).
Listen for, not only whether it clears a up completely, but also for a discernible change.

Happy Holidays!

Hello all,

I am fairly new here, moved to Citrus Grove full time in January.

I’m looking for some advice on stealth HF antennas.  There’s lots of info on the TVARC website and internet, but I am looking for real world experiences on what you’ve had good results with.

For my first attempt I built a 20-meter dipole and put it in my attic.

The antenna loads fine, but the horrendous QRM level makes it unusable.  We are talking a constant S-7 on 20 and S-9 on 40 meters.  I’ve never had to deal with noise levels of this magnitude.  Are the new houses in The Villages really this noisy?  I haven’t started trying to identify the source(s) of the noise.

So, my dilemma is, do I abandon the attic antenna and look for another solution, possibly an outdoor stealth antenna to get away from the noise, OR do I hunt down the source of the noise and try to reduce it?  I was thinking about laying a wire directly on the roof at the back of the house, in either an end fed or inverted V configuration.

I’d love to hear about other members experiences, especially with regard to receive noise on HF.

Thank you,

Rick Neukam
