For those interested in Emergency Communications here are two weekly nets,

  SKYWARN  Sunday  2030 Local  147.030            +6oohz    123.0

  EMCOMM  Monday 2030Local  146.025            +600hz     123.0

Both nets are check  in nets  (not Rag Chew) and are for testing of equipment and information..Both nets are open to any licensed Amateur Radio Station

 

On the SKYWARN net  stations are asked to provide a weather report during checkin (Optional)

 

The EMCOMM net  provides a link to the National Traffic system.  We are working to add some brief training to this net each week.

Sumter County RACES meets on the Second Thursday of the month at  the Emergency Management EOC on Powell road  Please contact [email protected]  for more information and access infromaton.  The County is looking to work with local groups as well to provide emergency communications

The Sumter County Library at Pinellas (in The Villages) will be hosting a workshop on Hurricane Preparedness on May 24, 2022.  Here’s an overview of this upcoming workshop:

Join the Sumter County Emergency Management professionals for this informational workshop on Hurricane Preparedness. Learn what to do to prepare in the event a storm approaches. Topics will include what to do before, during, and after a hurricane. Discussions will include the hurricane hazards, making an emergency plan, building an emergency kit, what items should be included, and how to stay informed of threatening conditions. The workshop will also teach essential prevention or mitigation strategies that you can do in your home to protect your household members and valuables.
