______________________________________________________________As we’ve been doing for the past few years (COVID permitting), Wayne, N4FP, and I will be motoring around the state of Florida giving out some 30+ counties to the deserving, all on CW. Stations will be able to work us in each county as if we were a brand new station. While Florida stations are allowed to work the mobile stations in each county, multipliers are only awarded for states, provinces, and DX countries, so they only count for QSO credit. We’ll be on 40, 20, and 15, and there’s a slight chance we may look at 10, if propagation and a slow QSO rate permits. In order for us to get to so many counties, we’ll need to limit the time spent at each, so QSO rates are important. Having 15 meters this year is significant, since we’ll have to weigh whether our rate on 20 has slowed down enough to change to 15 (or vice versa).
The FQP has arranged for mobile “windows.” In those frequency segments, only mobile stations are permitted to call CQ. When you hear N4FP on a particular band, jot down that frequency, because we’ll keep coming back to that same spot every time.
We’ll be starting in Lake (LAK) county, heading north up to the eastern edges of the panhandle, then back down to Ocala, where we’ll spend the night (today’s contest hours are noon until 10P). Then at it again Sunday from 8A until 6P, 10 hours each day. Sunday we’ll again go north, but try and cover the eastern part of the state, coming down through Orlando and near Tampa before ending back at The Villages.
So figure out your county abbreviation (MAO=Marion, SUM=Sumter, and Lake=LAK), find us on the band, and work us. Remember, propagation to the rest of Florida is kind of hit or miss, given skip conditions, but we’ll be looking for TVARCers!
73, Pete, K2PS (operating N4FP)
