Hi Members of TVARC’s MailList (especially those interested in contesting),
I participated in the ARRL's RTTY Round-up contest (held January 8-9, 2022). I echo Rich’s (ND4G) comments (see his earlier posting to this maillist) about this year’s contest. It was FUN thanks to some decent band openings at times on 40, 20, & 15 meters. Like Rich, I too heard K2PS a couple of times. I worked Rich/ND4G (gotta get the Florida multiplier).
An overview of my hardware/software setup for that contest would look something like this:
FLdigi (on Apple computer) <=USBcable=> ICOM IC-7610 [to use IC-7610’s built-in sound card to generate RTTY];
FLdigi <=UDP packets=> MacLoggerDX [for logging & to allow FLdigi to “follow” the IC-7610 (frequency changes, etc.)];
MacLoggerDX (on same Apple computer) <=USBcable=> IC-7610 [for CAT control of transceiver]
Notes:
(1) W1HKJ’s “FLdigi" software to modem (encode/decode) the RTTY digital mode via the built-in sound card in ICOM's IC-7610 (HF transceiver);
(2) Two (2) external software add-ons for FLdigi to handle both logging AND Push-to-Talk (PTT/keying of IC-7610) via MacLoggerDX (see K0PIR’s YouTube videos for details);
(3) DogPark Software’s “MacLoggerDX" software for CAT control of the IC-7610 and for actual logging of my QSOs (see K0PIR’s YouTube videos for details);
(4) Only one (1) USB cable is needed (from computer to IC-7610’s USB port) in this setup;
Here is my “brag” (my results) from that contest:
