Many thanks to Dan, K1TO for trusting me to activate a 1x1 in the FQP. This was
my first time and it was great fun. I believe the 1x1 does attract more
callers, and it’s nice not to have to worry about chasing mults or CW vs Phone
points, and just run, run, run. (FQP ranks 1x1s strictly by QSO totals)
Conditions were definitely better Saturday and I was able to hit my goal of 1200
Qs with 158 Qs/hr as top rate. Sunday was another story. It always starts out
slowly but this Sunday was poorer than expected. Two solar flares this weekend
certainly were not beneficial. Sunday Qs were only 50% of Saturdays.
Although I LOVE CW, SSB was an essential watering hole as the callers seemed
endless. I was happy to congratulate a new Ham who got his license last week,
and almost fell off the chair when TA0C called me. Thankfully, I managed to
catch the elusive (and highly successful) K2PS duo twice, as well as Ken, WB2ART
also twice. Several other TVARC members also made it into the N4D log.
Band changes with the BigEar are non-trivial, so it was with much reluctance I
made the 15 minute effort to switch from 20 to 15 Sunday afternoon. I was
quickly rewarded with a spate of W6/W7 activity and even a couple of W1/2s, but
just as quickly dried up. So it was back to the telescoping mast and BigEar for
a 15 minute band change back to 20.
It was REALLY fun chasing K6AR on the score board. We were neck & neck all
weekend.
Thanks for all the Qs..
