Hi TVARCers,
The 13 Colonies Special Event has had lots of interest and participation
among our members in years past. This year the event will run from July 1
through July 8. For next meeting, I'll be requesting any results you wish
to submit, so keep track and whether you work 'em all or miss a few, look
for my monthly TVARC Standings email.
Following is all the info you'll need.
73, Pete, K2PS
17th Annual 13 Colonies Special Event
Once again the annual (the 17th) "13 Colonies Special Event" will take
place between 1300z, July 1st and 0400z July 8th.
This year event organizers are recognizing the 13 Colonies Special Event
founder Ken Villone, KU2US, who is passing the torch on to Tony Jones,
N4ATJ. For the past 16 years Villone has led the event by working with
state and bonus station coordinators. Then after the event he would print
out individual certificates for thousands of people who made contact with
the special event stations.
The Special Event consist of one or two stations operating in each of
the 13 Colonies (K2A-K2M) and three bonus stations (WM3PEN - Philadelphia,
GB13COL - England, TM13COL - France) each representing their city, state,
or country's role in America's Colonial period. The U.S. original 13
colonies
are CT-DE-GA-MA-MD-NC-NH-NJ-NY-PA-RI-SC-VA. The special events
stations mentioned are: K2A (NY), K2B (VA), K2C (RI), K2D (CT), K2E (DE),
K2F (MD), K2G (GA), K2H (MA), K2I (NJ), K2J (NC), K2K (NH), K2L (SC) and
K2M (PA).
All HF bands will be in play including the WARC bands with the exception
of 60 meters. 2 meters and 6 meters simplex are encouraged. All modes
of operation should be represented - SSB, CW, RTTY, Digital, and the
Satellites. The mode of operation is up to the individual colony state
station.
The certificate is printed on heavy card stock. Stations working one
state or as many as all 16, will be eligible for the certificate. A "Clean
Sweep" indicator will be affixed for those lucky enough to work all 16.
A special endorsement will be attached for stations contacting the
sister operation, WM3PEN, in Philadelphia, PA, where independence was
declared. All certificate requests go to: Tony Jones - N4ATJ, PO. Box 622,
McAdenville, NC 28101, USA. QSL card requests go to each state's QSL
Manager (see QRZ.com).
For more details on the stations, suggested frequencies, QSL info and
how to obtain the special certificate, see: http://www.13colonies.us
