Hey TVARCers - this weekend is the ARRL June VHF Contest, starting 2P local.
If you've got a rig that covers 6 meters you can join in the fun. Of
course, those of you who can cover the other VHF and UHF bands can also
compete, but if you're looking for potentially huge pileups, then the "magic
band" is where you'll want to be.
Propagation has been spotty of late, with some good openings to the west,
Midwest, and northeast, but this has not occurred with any regularity.
June, however, tends to be the best month for Sporadic E, and if we can get
the solar flux up a bit, we could experience some F2 European openings.
All modes are in play for this one, and I find that the best way to approach
it is to try and emphasize SSB, with some occasional forays into the CW
portion of the band. FT8 is important here, and will often be a source of
QSOs when the band seems dead in the SSB/CW portions. FT8 will also be a
source of some multipliers unavailable on SSB/CW.
It is easy to give up when the band is dead, but it can suddenly spring to
life when some ion cloud decides to form somewhere, and the band just opens
up with signals. Even if you abandon the radio for a bit, keep watching
pskreporter.info or other sites to see if band openings are happening.
Spotting assistance is legal in this contest, so use it.
The exchange is just your 4-character grid square, and you can work stations
just once on each band, regardless of mode.
Here are the rules:

Hope to work everyone this weekend (but just on 6 meters for me).
