Well, CQWW CW is behind us for another year, and what a fun contest it was. BIC time was severely limited (or should have been) due to the need to walk/exercise the new knee. I made the mistake of getting carried away on 40M Saturday morning and could barely move when the band closed out. :-(

Conditions were great, with wall-to-wall activity from 10M thru 40M. The 6-BTV played especially well on 40 and 20, which accounted for the bulk of contacts. That said, it did surprisingly well on 15. 80M was another issue, and not a good one. I have a known problem with RF in the shack when running QRO on 80. If I keep the power under 600W all is well, but you know — THIS IS A CONTEST. I am operating remote, and excessive RF knocks out the Internet at the radio end, which cascades into a series of screen freezes, restarts, and reboots. In short, lost time.

Although the QSO count wasn’t particularly high, it is all about multipliers, which was my focus, garnering 390 in all. When there was no red or green on the current bandmap, I’d move to another band.

A shout out to fellow club mates who participated, ND8L, K3WT, K2TE, and of course Pete, K2PS who really rocked it with his 4-el 10 meter yagi.

Until next year,
Rusty - W3US
