Ten meters is a blast...at least when the solar cycle is in our favor. And
it is!
Not sure if conditions were as good as last year, as I made about 400 fewer
QSOs this time around, but the band opened strong to Europe both days, and I
had loads of fun running 'em. Had the rate meter up above 200 quite a few
times, peaking at 269. At that rate, if no one calls after a CQ, it drops
pretty quickly.
Asia was a bit slow, especially on Friday and Saturday night, but on Sunday
things perked up, and was able to call CQ and have JA stations come back at
a steady, although slow, rate. Of course, nothing like the Europeans.
Was really happy about the DX country total, with 115 (compared with last
year's 97).
I did have my four-element yagi up about 33 feet on a pushup mast, sitting
on top of my old faithful Ham IV rotator, and that, along with the 500W put
out by the KPA500, let me break any pileup. It was like old times up in New
Jersey.
Looking forward to the ARRL 10M Contest in two weeks. I would love to keep
the antenna in the air, but prudently I take it down, lest we encourage HOA
issues. I'll get it back up in a week and a half. It's all very much worth
it! Thanks to Tom, K3WT, for his assistance raising the yagi. Makes it
much easier to do.
