IMHO, this contest is the most fun of all! Florida stations are hunted by the other 49 states as well as the rest of the world. What can be better than that? One thing that makes FQP unique, and in my opinion a pleasure is that the operating period is divided into two ten hour sessions, one Saturday, and one Sunday. The ten hour break between allows for family, food, and an oportunity to wind down. Also, there’s no 80 meter competition, which substantially reduces stress. My stress anyway.

20 meters was by far the most productive band with over 1,100 QSOs. 40 meters was also quite respectable considering we didn’t reconfigure the BigEar until two hours before the session ended. 15 opened up well on Sunday, but sadly 10 meters had little to show. Quite surprising for a sunspot peak year.

My goal was to beat my 2022 high - ~ 350K points. This year, with some station improvements, operating adjustments, and a little luck, I managed 385K, so it’s safe to say mission accomplished.

As Ken mentioned, dupes were rampant - I had 59 in all. I was able to garner 49 states with Alaska (as usual) being the sole hold out. Not even AL7BA/8, who usually has a major FQP presence, was there to save me. Thanks to Paul (KM4PIH) at the helm of K4VRC in Brownwood for my first Villages QSO. I did manage one QSO with the expedition dynamic duo of Pete/K2PS and Tom/K3TW. K4PIM/Pim, K6UMO/Mike and N0SMX/Dennis rounded out the TVARCers.

Next weekend is another hot one for QSO parties. There are four contests (7QP, NEQP, IN, DE) covering 16 states. I heartily encourage everyone to get on and join in the fun.

73,
Rusty - W3US
