Attic crawlers of all type are invited. I'm looking for someone who will
crawl my attic and install a wire antenna. The reasons I ask for help
are two: XYL forbids 79 year old spouse (me) from falling through the
living room ceiling, and I'm not at all familiar with what obstacles
exist in the attic. ("Up north" we didn't have duct work in the attic
and we did have lots of flooring.)
The antenna is a 65 ft End Fed Half Wave, a 49:1 transformer and 65' of
wire, about as simple as it gets. I want it to run as an inverted vee
with a center point as high as possible. It will run from a wallbox in
the outer edge of the ceiling in the lanai, to (best case) a center
point at the highest point of the roof line, to wherever the far end can
be tied down, probably above the garage. It's built and tested, and I
have all the materials needed to hang it.
The building is a "designer" home of abt 2200 sq ft. So, there's enough
overall space. The attic is "as built" with whatever construction
technique used south of 44 a few years ago (Village of Chitty Chatty).
I've never been in the attic. There are no built-in stairs, and I
imagine the only flooring might be a 4'x8' sheet above the garage. I
think the principal challenge will be reaching a mounting point at the
peak of the roof.
Some electrical contractors have already failed to contract, so I turn
to club members for advice.
Please contact me off-list at N4REE @ bob-easton.com.
P.S. I'm not looking for free labor.
