Hello all -
So, I'm pulling together the parts for a Hustler 6BTV to hide inside a 2-1/2" transparent PVC pipe flagpole in the front yard, withDX Engineering tilt base, radial plate & 5kW line filter isolator. XYL Gail N4LBF is watching & participating & has a few questions for members of the local ham fraternity that has already been down this or similar road -
how many of you are married, is your spouse also an amateur
how long did your flagpole project take from start to finish
any problems, curiosity, issues from neighbors - how did you resolve them
what make & model antenna did you use
if you installed radials, how many & how did you accomplish this
what is the flagpole support/base and did you use a contractor
did you go through Architectural Review Committee ARC for your "flagpole" approval - any issues
any neighbor comments while antenna was exposed for tuning checks prior to covering
does your flagpole perform as expected, anything you wish you had done different
would you mind if she would like to stop by for a look-see for landscaping ideas around the base
I've run 6BTV verticals before, roof-mount with (4) 1/4-wave radials per band strung out over the shingles, and while it worked well enough to take Nov SS SJV Section Single-Op Low Power Phone a few years ago, I've not ever tried it as a flagpole.
I probably won't have the ARC review completed very soon to start installation, so am thinking of offering ashort seminar at the February 15th meeting including a show & tell with some of the pieces - base pipe, tilt-over mount, PVC section, some traps, etc - to show how it's all going to go together, if there is any interest.
All comments welcome, thanks.
