I've heard that some stations may send faster in order to cut down the pileups.  If you're pretty certain that you'll still have stations calling, even at high speed, your throughput may be higher, since it's always easier to copy a single call at a time.  Would be interesting to see if they then slow down by the end.

So, my issue is with the “super speed” guys this past weekend whose keying is not up to snuff - mostly too fast. They send at teletype speeds. Why?  If they would send slower and clear they would get more “business”.  My figure is they are just trying to impress people.
