Hi Members of TVARC’s MailList (especially those interested in DX’ing & DXpeditions),
I agree with the recent opinion article (dated Feb. 10, 2023), by Max (ON5UR), which he posted on "DX-World.net" (website for amateur radio). In this article, he complains about the unacceptable behavior by some “bad apples” in our ham hobby regarding their mis-use of the system of DX-spotting networks. In particular, during the ongoing "3Y0J Bouvet Island DXpedition 2023,” these rotten apples are abusing this system with their uncivilized comments.
Their abuse has significantly degraded the cluster system's functionality and integrity. Indeed, their uncouth behavior has sunk to the bottom of the barrel (maybe not as these Neanderthals probably have a bottom-less barrel as far as their behavior is concerned). It's also reflecting badly on our amateur radio hobby, which prides itself on its ability to self-govern (to a large extent) the hobby (of course, FCC rules, regulations & enforcement proceedings provide the needed “teeth” when needed).
So, take some time to read Max' article at this link: https://www.dx-world.net/unacceptable-behaviour-on-dx-clusters/ . Hopefully, you will concur with Max’ opinion and think of ways to support his suggestions that the cluster system needs to be “hardened-up” somewhat.
73,
Tony/K4QR
