Well, the oppressive heat over the last couple of weeks, and
intermittent rain prevented me from finishing up and having the new
Cobweb antenna ready to go. It is working for low power and I am using
it for FT8; but the ends need to be soldered to prevent the frayed ends
from arcing in the presence of high power. I am still not sure if my
investment is paying off. The signals seems to be a bit lower than on
the Flagpole/vertical, but it is a horizontal polarization, and in
theory that tells me the vertical would be noisier than the horizontal.
Anyway, back to the contest -- I had a couple of runs on Sunday logging
16 Qs in 22 minutes, 28 Qs in 27 minutes, and 9 Qs in a 10 minute
period.
I had an unplanned crisis at home preventing me to not operate at all on
Saturday, but thanks to Football scheduling, I was able to maximize my
Sunday.
